Delta Global Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, Inc., has a Paralegal III Job in Atlanta, GA through our Staffing Division. In the Paralegal lll Job,the candidate will support the law team by assisting in researching legal precedent, investigating facts, or preparing legal documents. Conduct research to support a legal proceeding, to formulate a defense, or to initiate legal action for matters related to aviation law, passenger claims, regulatory filings, and corporate filings in Latin America and AMEA.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive claim from local station or outside counsel.

  • Claims are added to the calendar, NetDocuments and Quickbase.

  • Request customer care correspondence – § Note date of correspondence request on calendar.

  • Even before customer care correspondence is received, the claim investigation process can begin.

This involves:

  • Reviewing the information requested in the attorney email summarizing the claim to determine the claim type and establish what has been requested (in the case of claims received directly from National Regulatory Agencies, this review is conducted independently).

  • Pulling all relevant documentation: · PNR (can be accessed via SPIL or DBMS) · Hyperion (for the older claims this is our only source of information) · Deltamatic, DLTERM, which may be needed to confirm travel.

  • In the event of a flight delay, retrieve relevant documents on the flight from the Flight Legs page on Delta Net.

  • In the event that the nature of the delay is unclear requesting additional information from the appropriate contacts (i.e. Flight Mechanical Reports or ATC and FAA information, flight stats (passenger information), refund information).

  • In addition this information is archived separately in specific files, so that it can be utilized in recurring claims involving the same flights.

  • Once research is complete, indicate on calendar what information is in the file, which information requests are pending and change the status to researched or investigated.

  • Review customer care correspondence to see whether or not compensation has been provided—and if so obtain payment remittance information.

  • Once a higher level of familiarity is gained with the results of the research process and relevant regulations, outside counsel may be contacted directly and provided with a claim summary and relevant information such as the PNR, information from the flight legs page, additional information obtained as the result of specific research, and settlement recommendations can be made.

  • Brazil: Brazil follows essentially the same process outline above with a few exceptions: § Customer care correspondence does not need to be requested. § Brazilian claims often deal with refunds. · For these claims DLTERM/Deltamatic shows refund information. In addition BSPLink is used to confirm whether refunds have been requested (this is an external site that shows refund status).

  • There is a weekly circulation of refund information from the station that confirms reimbursement status that should also be reviewed.

  • Non claim related tasks: o Filing court documents in the UK and Canada, preparation of form documents for signature and filing.

  • Serengeti: o Bills are reviewed and direct payments to claimants are posted (if applicable).

  • Attorney legal fees are reviewed to ensure that billing is related to active cases, are timely, and meet company outside counsel policies.

  • New firms and new matters may need to be set up in Seregenti (as needed).

  • Run reports on payment approvals, payment status as necessary.

  • The majority of firms post settlement payments on our behalf, these need to be reviewed for accuracy, inclusion of the correct supporting documentation.

  • Cases are updated as “closed” in quick base once direct payments are made to claimants, or settlement payments are authorized—they are also updated as closed on the calendar.
